10th June 2016

With race season well underway it is becoming increasingly challenging to update all the members fantastic results!
Below is a synopsis  on events during the last few weeks. The write up really doesn't do justice to the time and effort members put into their training and racing. Congratulations to all, keep 'em coming folks!

Other news- James Graham now owns a wetsuit and has won a place in the London Tri-watch this space!

Weald Challenge Trail 50km Ultra May 29th

The Weald Challenge Trail Races follow the long distance paths of the Wealdway and the Vanguard Way. Both races start and finish in the village of Chiddingly and encompass the surrounding beauty of the Sussex countryside en route. The courses are approximately 75% (half marathon) and 85% (ultra) off-road, and as the runners travel along the picturesque and undulating routes, they will take in a great variety of landscapes containing rolling hills, irregular shaped fields and ancient woodlands. Runners participating in the 50km Ultra Trail race will experience the added bonus of the spectacular views from the open heathland of the Ashdown Forest.

Above is the inviting description of the Weald Challenge race undertaken by Andrea Harwood and Alex Mandryko. Both members were competing in their first Ultra races. Results were fantastic, many congratulations to both of them. Andrea recorded a time of 5:03:39 (3rd lady) with Alex finishing in 5:17:02.
It's great to see members dipping their toes into new and exciting adventures.

Heroes & Villains Run-Hove
Our 'ever so slightly eccentric' James Graham ran the above event on 19th May, this year dressed  as a villain, Joker from Suicide Squad, James said " re costumes I cant recommend running on a hot day in -lycra shorts and joggers, wooooow hot. it was fun and makeup running from sweat made me look even more scary lol. Next year maybe HULK :-)"

Starfish Marathon & Races 15th May
The second year for this very popular event supported by brt. The club provide timers, marshals and helpers to assist in raising money for the Tree of Hope charity.  The club name reached far and wide through all the publicity surrounding the race and many participants wrote in to express their thanks for an exceptionally well organised race. To date, with money still being collected, over £5000 has been raised!
The club had two participants in the Half Marathon event, namely, Tom Brampton and Ali Marshman. Tom just pipped Ali with a time of 1:38:38 to place 8th overall.  Ali's time was 1:39:37 (10th overall).
With over double the amount of relay teams in the Marathon this year the club's all girls team consisting of Lorna Cotter, Pam Matthews, Cathy Bate and Ruth Frais (Coast Busters Team) ran a great race to finish in 10th place.  With thanks to Greg Stokes for recording all the teams split times, the girls ran:
1:06:02 59:29 1:01:30 1:04:36
A full report and photos of the race can be found at Starfish Races 2016

Congratulations to Andy Croft who spent the weekend taking his coach course in running & fitness!

There are 2 more of these evening events on Wed June 15th and July 20th or look velocity event website for more details. Good for newbies or just for training practice."

The Thames Path 100
100 miles non-stop on foot along the River Thames from Richmond, London to Oxford. 28 hour time limit. Total Climb: 1900 feet. Date: 30th April - 1st May 2016.
Not a race for the faint hearted and with a cut off time of 28 hours in order to be eligible for an award only the most experienced or mentally deranged runner would contemplate this distance. Some say Tim Cox is a bit of both!
For a warm up to the main event Tim ran the Richmond Parkrun in a sub 23 min time! He then went on to complete the 100 in an amazing time of 21:07:15. Tim paced himself evenly and overtook some 50 or so runners in the second half to finish in 48th position.
Experienced, maybe a little deranged but most definitely an inspiration to us all!

Picture
Cathy Bate made it a family affair last weekend. Running with her brothers, Cathy recorded a time of 28:24 at the Bedgebury Pinetum Parkrun on Saturday.
Following on from that they then headed out to Burgess Hill for the 10km. on Sunday. A multi terrain, somewhat muddy course, Cathy was very please with her time of  1:02:36. Well done Cathy.

25th April 2016

Congratulations to
Dan Marshman who not only ran in fancy dress but bagged himself a new pb and third place overall in the St George's Day Marathon last Saturday!
Inspired by Tim Cox's outfit last year no doubt!
Dan's time was 3:24:15.

Running your first marathon is always going to be memorable, however, when that marathon just happens to be London you know it's going to be even more special! Lorna Cotter's journey started last December when she was the lucky recipient of the club's one place for the event. Ali's guidance Lorna diligently completed all her training and wow did it pay off! Lorna was delighted with her time of 4:54:29. This is what she had to say:
"London marathon 4:54. Hardest thing I've done but well worth it. Crowds were fantastic. Thanks for all your support. Wouldn't have got here without you Ali Marshman. Good hearing tips from all you other marathon runners too. Who's next?"
Ballot open Monday 2nd-6th May everyone!

18th April 2016

The Brighton Marathon took place yesterday in near perfect conditions for running. Starting off with a chill in the air the weather improved and with no wind to speak of making conditions ideal. Running his first ever marathon and barefoot (!) James Graham recorded a time of 4:45:30. No mean feat James (excuse the pun!) Also running his first marathon was Keith Stokes, although now living in Surrey, Keith has in the past done an enormous amount of work for BRT. Keith's result was 4:09:19.

Brt and Run Wednesdays came together to run in the Bungay Festival of Running in Suffolk. After copious amounts of alcohol the night before Chris Sage ran the 10km, Sherrill Barrett and Colin and Claire Hanks the Half Marathon. Alcohol and running obviously suits Claire who recorded a pb! Results were:
Chris 1:13:53  Sherrill 1:53:34  Colin 1:53:29  Claire  2:29:29

6th April 2016-Paris Marathon & A 50's theme!

Many congratulations to Andrea Harwood and Julian Manlow who ran the Paris Marathon last Sunday (3rd April). Both ran well with Andrea clocking 3:42:41 and Julian 4:39:46. Recover well folks!

Also last Sunday David Crosby decided to celebrate a milestone birthday (50) by running the Reading Half Marathon! Here's what he had to say:
"Huge thanks to all those who donated to my sponsorship page www.justgiving.com/davidjcrosby to help me fundraise for Breast Cancer Care!
As promised, I ran the Reading Half Marathon last Sunday 3rd April on my 50th birthday, wearing race number 50 which the race organisers kindly issued me. I was chuffed with my chip time of one hour 48 minutes and 30 seconds (1:48:30), given that I ran two half marathons in training but only managed 2:04:51 and 2:05:26.
I raised £415 plus £93.75 Gift Aid, which will pay for 102 Breast Cancer Care information resource packs for people newly diagnosed with breast cancer.
Next stop is the Great North Run on 11th September!
Many thanks again for your support."
Well done David-great work and Happy 50th!

This coming weekend members Tim Cox, Susie Casebourne and Sharon Dickson take on the mighty SDW50. Get out and cheer them on if you can. Good luck all.  Follow them live here:

Membership
Annual Membership is now due please. The cost this year is £30 for non-affiliated adults and £43 for those who wish to affiliate to England Athletics.
New adult members welcome.
Junior membership will remain at £12. Please note we have a waiting list for the Junior section. Membership forms can be downloaded from the home page or you can complete the form and pay on line here.
Please can adult members also complete the registration form which can be found on the home page of the website.
Juniors registration form will be found in the Junior Section.
Registration forms can be forwarded to chris@bexhillrunnerstriathletes.co.uk

Please read a message from Ali below explaining the committee's reason for the increase in membership fees this year:

Hi All
You may have noticed the individual membership fee has risen for the coming year and wondered why? As a small club with an adult membership of less than a 100 we don’t have huge overheads but we also generate very little money to sustain the club. The hope is that by raising the fees a bit we can allow the club to grow by spending some money on training equipment, club kit and advertising.

So what do you get for your £30 a year or £2.50 a month, well access to at least three coached and led running sessions a week, a coached swim session on a Friday (the £3 cost is lane hire which we pay direct to Bexhill swimming club) and if there is demand some coached/led cycling & triathlon sessions as the weather improves. Need or want a training plan for your next race? Speak to one of the coaches, there is no charge for advice or training plans.
I hope you agree this sounds like pretty decent value for the price of a takeaway sandwich per month. Obviously running is something you can do on your own for free but it is always more fun with others. The numbers of members who have produced new personal bests or raced at new distances in the last year is a testimony that you are most likely better together.
Do you want to take up the UKA membership as well? This is a personal choice but the link below gives you a summary of some of the benefits
http://www.englandathletics.org/englan…/athlete-registration
What about all you triathletes? – I know you’re out there! BTF membership is about £40 a year but will save you at least £5 per race and the BTF offers a lot of associated benefits, 25% of the cost of a new Garmin watch for example. The link below gives a summary of the benefits
https://www.triathlonengland.org/…/club-and-membership-faqs…
As part of the annual renewal process we would ask that everyone completes a new registration form so we can make sure all the member contact details are accurate. You can either do this the traditional way by printing a form off the website, www.bexhillrunnerstriathletes.co.uk, and paying by cheque or thanks to Dan Marshman we have joined the 21st century and you can fill in the form and pay on line.

PictureJames & Lorna with Lydd 20 mile medals
18th March 2016
Members went 'long' last weekend with Lorna Cotter and James Graham tackling Lydd 20 miles, while Sharon Dickson tackled the tough Moyleman Marathon.
Both events were being held for the second year and continue to grow and develop. Lydd 20 is pancake flat and a great event for those, like Lorna, training for the London Marathon in April. The runners can practise running at their own pace whilst competing in a crowd and also test out their nutrition ahead of the marathon.
James is in the process of raising funds for The Sara Lee Trust by clocking up over 59 miles (barefoot) in a four week period with Hastings Half to go this Sunday.
The Moyleman is a very tough off road event held in the hills around Lewes on the South Downs. With beautiful scenery and a pint of Harvey's beer at the end this event is set to become very popular! Sharon, already a seasoned runner,  is one of our newest members and likes nothing more than running on the trails around Sussex.
Results were: Lorna 3:40:21  James 3:42:12  Sharon 4:43:49

22nd February 2016

Yesterday saw the final race in the ESSSCCL at Pett. The club have been well supported this year and finished in a creditable 8th place out of 12. Congratulations to all who took part especially Susie Casebourne who won an award for placing 3rd in her age group. Alex, Dan, Ewan & Tim were mad enough to run the Alex Hall 5km then drive over to Pett to compete in the cross country too! They also accepted trophies won by our Juniors at the end of series award ceremony. All the results (yesterday and overall) can be found here. Take time to visit the Junior Events page to read about their outstanding success.

Also held yesterday was the club's Alex Hall Memorial 5km on Bexhill promenade. Very well supported by Alex's family and friends, the race was truly a celebration of all that Alex enjoyed about being a member of the club and running along 'his' seafront! Everyone seemed to enjoy the event even though the weather was extremely challenging with a very strong wind! Full results and pictures (courtesy of Mike Stokes) can be found here.

This from Dave Oxbow and the committee:

"Many thanks to everyone for Sundays Alex Hall Memorial 5k
Thanks go to everyone involved Runners, Marshall's, Helpers, Spectators, Cake bakers,
all played a massive part in making this event a success, despite some reports
of somewhat inclement conditions around part of the course, (can't say we
noticed at the start/finish area!!!!) I think/hope everyone was pleased how things
went on the day. So pleased to see Lorraine, Alexander, and Victoria, as well as
many friends and relations who all came to support this event.
Alex was, and is a massive part of our club, and it was great to have so many
club members, both old and new there supporting this event, as well as those
who knew and remembered Alex so fondly."

PictureWhere's Tim?
10th February 2016

Tim Cox  posted an amazing time of 19:57 (6th overall) at his first attempt in the Hastings Parkrun on 23rd January! Judging by the picture he should've started in the front line up!
A regular entry  into this free event (perhaps once a month) is a great way to measure your training progress.
Andy Bishop is a regular over at the Eastbourne Parkrun. Find out about Parkruns here. You just need to register to obtain a barcode and go to whichever one you like.

Several adult and junior members took part in Danny Garbett's cross country run starting at St Bede's on Sunday 24th January.  Some very good times were run in very murky conditions.  Results TBC. Pictures in the Gallery. The next one in Danny's series is on 28th February. Registration at the cafe near St Bede's Eastbourne from 8:15 am.

The 5th in the ESSCCL took place at Firle Beacon on Sunday 31st January. Very strong results from BRT adults and Juniors and Ewan's birthday too! Results were: Dan Marshman 37:06 Martin Reynolds 40:00 Tim Cox 40:12 Alex Mandryko 40:27 Susie Casebourne 41:10 Alistair Marshman 44:40 Ewan Carradine 44:40 Andy Croft 57:12 See Juniors for their results. The last event in the series is at Pett on the 21st February.  Unfortunately this clashes with the Alex Hall Memorial 5km but the club will have a strong field in both races.
With the Alex Hall race in mind, please let Chris know if you can marshal.  We are reintroducing the tradition of home made cakes for the runners so if you can supply some please also let Chris know.

Tim Cox competed in the Arc of Attrition race in Cornwall last weekend. A gruelling 100 mile run at the best of times, Tim hit the worst of times due to a raging storm. So fierce were the winds that the local anemometer was blown away-hence the wind speed could not be recorded! Tim successfully ran 78 miles before he abandoned his valiant attempt.  Tim is safe in the knowledge that he completed this inaugural race last year. I suspect his goal was therefore to gain a faster time rather than just finish.
There is a lesson for us all here.  Unless you push yourself outside of your comfort zone you will never know what you can achieve. Never fear failure. The success for Tim was completing 78 miles in a race where 73% of competitors pulled out. When an event doesn't go to plan a person will gain far more experience  and learn so much more to take forward into future challenges than the fleeting moment of a successful event. So whether you enter your first 5km, triathlon or 100 miler give it your best - you will never lose! Very well done Tim.

There is a great blog here by a competitor who ran alongside Tim for some of the course which describes the atrocious conditions.

PictureWinter wonderteam!
19th January 2016

The fourth cross country of the ESSCCL series was run in Ashdown Forest last Sunday. A good turnout from club members and also club juniors who had some very good results. Runners braved the first snow of the winter over a tough course. Results were: Dan Marshman 33:59 Alex Mandryko 36:23 Tim Cox 36:27 Susie Casebourne 39:10 Ewan Carradine 40:04 Alistair Marshman 40:28 Andrea Hardwood 40:54 Jeremy Sankey 43:12 David Palmer 45:22 James Graham 52:20 Pam Matthews 52:45 More pics in the Gallery.

Last weekends Hastings Parkrun was a family celebration for Cathy Bate. Not only was Cathy celebrating a significant birthday (sure she won't mind me mentioning 60 years young!) but three of her brothers ran too! Cathy ran yet another pb (The icing on the cake you could say!) Cathy's time of 25:58 puts her 2nd in her age group (only 3 secs from top-no pressure Cathy!) on the Hastings Parkrun leaderboard over the 40 weeks it has been in existence. There to run and cheer on Cathy were Ewan Carradine who ran an impressive 21:09 and Lorna Cotter who recorded 30:26.

PictureThe start.
Sunday 13th December 2015

A great time was had by all at last Saturday's Lion's Santa Dash along Bexhill seafront. With a choice of 2km or 5km there was something for everyone. Runners with children in pushchairs, runners with dogs, children on scooters and even a bare footed Santa! (aka James Graham!)

Now is the time to plan your races for next year. If you're planning a marathon don't forget our very own Starfish Marathon entry is now live.
Set an achievable goal, one to push yourself and an event to aim for, perhaps at the end of next year or even 2017. Plan your training, adapt your sessions if you start to plateau and don't be afraid to ask for advice. BRT leaders, coaches and members are a very friendly bunch of people with a wealth of experience in road, trail and endurance running as well as triathlon/duathlon events. Come along to our sessions and start achieving your dreams!

PictureSherrill post race looking as fresh as........
Monday 2nd November 2015

The club had 2 representatives in the Dublin Marathon on 26th October.  First home in a great time of 3:50:30 was Sherrill Barrett followed by Barry Ingram in a time of 4:47:49. Their recovery time will be limited as Barry will be in action again this coming Sunday in the Poppy Half Marathon which is the last event of the 7 that he set himself to achieve this year.  Sherrill is running the Shakespeare Half Marathon on 14th.

Jamie Faulkner raced the Bayside Autumn Duathlon at Stokes Bay Gosport yesterday and came 5th in his Age Group. Jamie's time for the sprint race was 1:17:13. Splits were Run 20:13 Bike 34:58 Run 21:00.  Excellent times Jamie.  It was hard for his wife Emma to spectate as she was due to race also but is currently injured. Hope you are back soon Emma.

Christmas lunch will be on Sunday 13 December 2015 at the Cooden Beach Hotel 12.30 for 1pm. The cost is £20 for adults and £10 for children under 14 (£5 if they are BRT Junior members). Monday 12th October 2015

Saturday 3rd October saw the juniors head off to the track at Eastbourne for the first time! This was a valuable opportunity to train alongside some of the seniors. (the juniors actually outnumbered the adults!) A great time was had by all and it is hoped to arrange another session in the not too distant future.

Brt 'We 3 Try' team completed a late season Tri at Lydd on October 4th. Organised by Velocity Events the distance was 600m lake swim 20k bike and 5.2km run. Lorna Cotter
was on the swim leg, Pam Matthews bike leg with James Graham run leg. They had the pleasure of winning the team category in a time of 1:29:37 and their prize was a crate of beer! (Sometimes it's well worth competing in events!) Split times were: Swim 14:27 Bike 49:11 Run 25:59.

PictureDavid with his 10km medal
David Crosby ran the Reading 10km in 49:49, his first 10km for 18 months. Well done David.

Last Sunday (11th) Susie Casebourne triumphed in the Sussex Marathon finishing 3rd overall and 1st lady in a time of 3:34:51. A great run, well done Susie.

The Tempo 10km in Eastbourne (also on Sunday) included 4 brt members. All ran strong, results were: James Graham 53:25 Andy Croft 55:35 Cathy Bate 55:39 Pam Matthews 55:45.

The 1st of the X country races takes place this coming Sunday at Warren Hill. Brt have 8 pre registered adults for all races. Entries accepted on the day. See Sussex races for details.   Juniors racing before the main event. Very friendly events of approx 5 miles and a great way to get some strong training in throughout the winter months.

Monday 28th September 2015

Many congratulations to Simon Irwin who became an Ironman at the weekend!  Simon raced Ironman Mallorca and finished in a time of 14:01:53.  His split times were:
Swim 1:08:54 Bike 7:03:51 Run 5:28:06.

Dan Marshman competed in The Gauntlet at Hever Castle yesterday.  The half Ironman distance commenced with an open-water swim in the spectacular 38 acre Hever Castle Lake and River Eden, transitioning into the undulating cycle that took athletes around a circuit through the High Weald of Kent, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and up to the stunning Ashdown forest.  The largely off-road run circumnavigated the estate and award-winning castle grounds before athletes made the dash to the tree-lined finishing chute beside the lake.  Dan finished in an excellent time of 5:57:40.  His splits were:
 Swim 31:47 Bike 3:12;02 Run 2:07:11.

And finally....... this from James Graham:
"Thank goodness for a clean set of underpants, men may understand 'do i put clean set in or reuse old, mmmm' well I put a new set in my scuba bag . 23 members ran the Bexhill to Hastings Link Road 10km yesterday.  This one off race ahead of the opening of the new road inspired 1200 runners to enter. An undulating course with a section of unmade road coupled with a very hot day made for a tough but enjoyable run. Members results were:
Dan Marshman 40:14 (4th AG) Martyn Reynolds 41:25 Tim Cox 43:40 Ali Marshman 45:03 Tom Brampton 45:13 Ewan Carradine 47:04 Grant Docksey 48:38 Mike Stokes 48:36 Andy Bishop 49:21 Julian Manlow 49:24 Sherrill Barratt 48:50 (2nd AG) James Graham 53:42 Jez Wood 54:53 Barry Ingram 55:46  Pam Matthews 56:28 Simon Irwin 57:42 Beverley Morgan 58:48 Bill Pender 1:00:01 (2nd AG) Dave Oxbrow 1:02:03 Donia Pankhurst 1:13:08 Pam Morley 1:13:12 Lina Cahill 1:13:45 Greg Cahill 1:13:49 Chris Sage 1:20:14
Bill Pender was only 5 seconds off winning his Age Group and a lovely gold cup! Judging by the photos he was running with a harem of lovely ladies who he was reluctant to leave behind!
Link to photos here.

Lorna Cotter competed in the Brighton Marina Tri which was also held yesterday. Lorna's longest distance to date, this is what she had to say:
"Brighton Marina Triathlon had a change of plan and changed swim leg to the sea. Turned out to be a perfect morning and was flat calm. Was an in between sprint and standard distance with 1k swim, 32k cycle and 8k run so good for stepping stone to next stage.
Also was low key- no timing chips, called out your race number when you come out swim and no medal! My watch time was 3hr 1m."
Very well done Lorna.

The Junior membership has now reached 40! This is a remarkable achievement and all credit to Andy Croft for the time and commitment he gives to the youngsters. Fortunately for Andy they haven't all turned up together at a session yet! If any members can help out at junior sessions at any time then please do. Andy can be contacted at andy@bexhillrunnerstriathletes.co.cuk.

Picture'We 3 Try' Pam, James & Lorna with their medal.
Monday 14th September 2015

Plenty of action over the weekend, however, we start our news with one result from 6th September.  Adrian Collins completed his first ever Middle Distance Tri (1900 Swim 90km Bike 20km run) at the Sussex Tri. Ashburnham.
There was an unfortunate incident with a hedge on the bike leg, but he got back on and finished in a brilliant time of 6:11:16 - and still had enough energy left to dig the garden the next day! All the training paid off Adrian. Congratulations!

Pam Matthews and James Graham flirted with the world of Triathlon for the first time yesterday! With Lorna Cotter on the swim leg, Pam on bike and James on the run leg they completed the Sprint distance Tri at Bodiam in a time of 1:43. 'We 3 Try' s individual times were: Swim 11:53 Bike 56:38 Run 32:46. A fun time was had by all.  Relay/team events are a great way of combining talents and supporting each other in attempting something new. Thank you to Jim Cotter for the photo.

PictureAndy Croft
Andy Croft ran the Hellingly 10km, a very scenic race with a sting in its tail! (large hill at the end!) Although Andy had a knee problem at the 7km mark he finished in a creditable 59:55. Get some ice on it Andy!

PictureDavid Crosby
Although David Crosby moved away from the area some time ago he remains a loyal member to brt and flew the flag for the club in the Pangbourne 10km yesterday. The course was multi-terrain on an undulating route through the beautiful woods and countryside overlooking Pangbourne, Berkshire.  All proceeds went to the local school.  David finished in a time of 51:39. Good to see you David!

PictureBarry Ingram

Barry Ingram ran the famous Great North Run in hot conditions.  He was very pleased with his time of 2:03. The Dublin Marathon is next on his list of 5 events he is completing this year to commemorate five years of running and five years since he lost his grandad. Tim Cox tackled the gruelling  Ring O' Fire event last weekend.  Circumnavigating the Isle of Anglesey, North Wales, the race is a 135 mile coastal ultra marathon. While we await Tim's blog with anticipation we send him congratulations in finishing in 18th place  in a time of 32:12:47.

"Battle 10k today, you don't realise just how many uphills, clock time 54:4... ,didn't go 100% lost my running belt, forgot to charge running watch and should have taken it easier up powdermills hill,so I had to walk a little. Unfortunately rain stopped play at today's Rother 'BeActive' event. Over 30 local sports clubs and businesses came together on the De La Warr lawns to promote leading a healthy, active lifestyle. Brt set up a gazebo and stall which ultimately became a rain shelter! Just as the rain came down Andy Croft led the juniors, including four potential new members, in a coached running skills session. (Pictures here) The event was then cut short due to the weather. Thank you to David Palmer for providing the gazebo and display boards, Dave Oxbow for the table, Andy Croft for the junior session and the other members who came to give out promotional cards and chat to the public about our great club.   Even Janet's dog Dexter lent a helping paw!

Saturday afternoon Lorna Cotter took the plunge into the London Docks at the start of  the London Sprint Tri. Lorna won entry into the race in a competition and described the whole experience as "Great!" She was understandably very pleased with her overall time of exactly 2hrs. (Pb) Her split times were Swim 20:29 Bike 51:28 Run 35:17. Fantastic achievement Lorna.

Sunday morning dawned and at Bewl Water it was a very misty start for the Ironman swim distance of 3800m. In action for brt were Dan & Ali Marshman (busy weekend for the guys!) and Simon Irwin. Great results all round. First out for brt was Dan Marshman in a pb time of 59:55 (1st time under the hour). Ali Marshman was very close behind in a time of 1:02:20. Simon Irwin's time was 1:23:59. Great work from all.

A busy weekend all round and as ever great results from our members.  If you have any results you would like to see posted, race reports or events you would like to see listed please email gill@bexhillrunnerstriathletes.co.uk

Wow! What a great turnout for the annual Herstmonceux Castle Relays last night. Organised by Hailsham Harriers, no less than 98 teams ran! A degree of good humoured jostling for position was witnessed in the congested hand over area!  Brt entered teams from the junior section for the first time and the 1.5m loop was enjoyed by all. Results here.  Well done to the organisers, runners and supporters. Link to photos here.  Thank you Angela Croft.

2 members took part in the Prudential Ride London Surrey Classic last Sunday August 2nd. This event is gradually becoming one of the world's leading cycling events and a lasting legacy of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games.
100 miles taking in both Box Hill and Leith Hill, the course is a challenging ride. Both Dan Marshman and David Palmer had very strong rides.  Their times were:

Firstly a couple of missed results.  Back in May Lorna Cotter chose a very wet & windy day to compete at Ardingly in the Sprint Triathlon. Lorna achieved a total time of 2:03:10.  Her split times were  Swim 9:48 Bike 1:15:06 Run 38:16.

Lorna was in action again on June 18th along with Ali Marshman & Dan Marshman at the same venue, this time swimming the Ardingly lake. Much better weather produced excellent times,  Lorna (750m) 18:35  Ali (3k) 51:56 Dan (3k) 52:05.

Both events were organised by Hedgehog Tri, worth a look, they also have Kids events.

Bexhill Swimming Club are holding their annual sea swim on Sunday 2nd August starting at the Clock Tower  Bexhill at 12 noon. The distance is around 800m and is supported by Hastings lifeguards so is suitable for those people who are not very confident swimming in the sea. As the majority of those swimming are children the race will only be held if the lifeguards feel it's safe to swim. The course is parallel to the beach so swimmers do not have to worry about swimming 'out to sea'!  Just turn up on the day and give it a go.

If you are looking for novice events and fancy having a go at a Tri then take a look at Ringer Community Triathlons. Not far to travel and excellent for beginners.

PictureJames with his well earned medal & scarf at 5am Sunday morning!
Last Saturday 25th July our bare footed James Graham took on the challenge of walking 100km in the Oxfam Trailwalker.  James completed the walk in under 24hrs!  He was asking where he could find a new body afterwards!

Hastings 5km Parkun continues to be popular with members.  Jon Fielden recorded a time of 20:11and Pam Matthews bagged herself  a pb of 26:08! On the same morning Andy Bishop was in action  in the Eastbourne Parkrun and recorded a  time of 23:49.

Next Wednesday session 5th August is the ever popular Herstmonceux Relays. Run in teams of 4, each leg is approx 1.2 miles. If you would like to enter please contact Chris (chris@bexhillrunnerstriathletes.co.uk) or Ali (ali@bexhillrunnerstriathletes.co.uk)  Lots of you have already signed up. Historically Brt have entered a strong contingent in these races and great fun is had by all on the night!

PictureYes-it's still raining Sherrill!
Monday 20th July 2015

Looking back over the past few weekends has revealed a number of events worthy of a mention.
Bewl 15 was held on Sunday 5th July.  The race is a unique event, run largely off road on pretty, gently undulating hills around Bewl Water - nestling on the border of Sussex and Kent.  The race was voted one of the country's Top 100 races by readers of Runners World.
The lovely hot weather decided to abate and our participating 9 members got slightly wet and muddy! Results were:
Sherrill Barrett 2:17:46  Andy Bishop 2:24:33 Ingram 2:28:32  Julian Manlow 2:35:39 Grant Docksey 2:35:42 Andy Croft 2:39:23  James graham 3:08:35 Claire Hanks 3:17:16

Ironman Frankfurt took place the same weekend. Brt had the Brownlee equivalent in the form of the Marshman brothers - Ali and Dan! This race boasts one of the most historical finish lines in the sport, ending in the heart of the old city.
Taking on an Ironman demands intensive training which has to fit in with work, family and other commitments. Then there is the the inevitable task of managing niggling injuries.  To get to the start line in the best shape possible is no mean feat but when the temperature is in the mid 30's the race becomes even more of a challenge! Pleased to say our brothers not only rose to it but Ali recorded a pb! Extremely well done.  Their results were:
Dan - Swim 1:10:39 Bike 5:37:00 Run 4:30:39  Total 11:31:25
Ali -    Swim 1:09:41 Bike 6:12:04 Run 5:09:44 Total 12:52:11

Picture1st placed Emma + medal
The 1km Eastbourne Big Sea Swim on July 12th was a triumph for Emma Ramsden. Emma was not only 1st woman with a time of 29:48 but 4th overall!  Well done Emma.

Bill Boniface was justly very proud to achieve a 3rd place in his Age Group and 21st overall in the Hever Castle Ironman. This event is becoming known as the hardest Ironman in the country! The event on 12th July was Bill's first ever Ironman. Awesome achievement. Awaiting a photo from the hero! Bill's times were:
Swim 1:17:42 Bike 7:05:39 Run 4:57:31 Total 13:34:32

New members are embracing the world of Triathlon this year.  Ewan Carradine clocked up his first Sprint Tri on 18th July and had this to say:
"Chalked off the virgin Tri today! 750m/20k/5k in 1:23:49, pretty happy with that. 🏊🚲🏃 Thank you for everyone's support and advice. I'm now addicted!"

Hastings Parkrun continues to attract members on Saturday mornings. Last Saturday 18th July excellent running conditions helped James Graham, Pam Matthews Cathy Bate all run a PB !  Free to enter, Parkruns are becoming very popular. How about testing your time over the 5km distance every month or so? In between times come to coached run sessions to train to improve.

Wednesday session 5th August is the ever popular Herstmonceux Relays. Run in teams of 4, each leg is approx 1.2 miles. If you would like to enter please contact Chris (chris@bexhillrunnerstriathletes.co.uk) or Ali (ali@bexhillrunnerstriathletes.co.uk)  Historically Brt have entered a strong contingent in these races and great fun is had by all on the night!

Brt members certainly are a busy lot!  Several events to catch up on.

SDW100
Jon Fielden ran a fantastic race to finish in a time of 21hrs 54mins, earning himself the special Centurion Buckle! Jon's report is here:

Brian Spiers cycled perhaps the ultimate UK ride from Jon O' Groats to Lands End. Brian started on 21st June riding 100 miles a day over 10 days! Very well done Brian.

Also on June 21st Andy Croft and Sherrill Barrett ran the Pier to Pier from Hastings to Eastbourne.

Members were out in force on Wednesday 24th June for the Alex Hall Memorial 5km. £243 was raised on the night and Lorraine Hall was in attendance   presenting the winners with their medals. The club would like to thank Lorraine and the AHMF for helping pay for equipment for the junior runners. Times were: Dan Marshman 18:21 Alex Mandryko 18:29 Tim Cox 19:48 Ben Evett 20:00 Ali Marshman 20:33 Mark Griffin 20:49 (nearly 3 mins quicker than last month!) Ewan Carradine 21:01  Andy Bishop 23:29 Antonio Serrano 24:17  Pam Matthews 26:19 (3rd AG)  Cathy Bate 26:44 (1st AG) Lorna Cotter 28:23 James Graham 24:31 Andy Croft 24:37 Barry Ingram 24:55 Marcos Miranda 26:25 Elliott Heynes (Junior) 28:56 Dave Oxbow 29:03 (3rd AG) Daisy Cox (Junior) 29:34 (1st AG) Lucas Heynes (Junior) 31:06 Donia Pankhurst 31:31 Pam Morley 33:27 Chris Sage 36:00

Grafman Half Ironman
Hats off to new member Marcos Miranda for tackling this event as his 1st ever Tri!  If anyone needs inspiration or motivation then talk to Marcos! He had this to say:
"1.9 km swim in 42 min. Horrible swim, I almost quit before the first 500m. The weatsuit tried to kill me by taking my breathing, it was just too tigth and I was really struggling in the middle of the wave, so I had to stop, undo a bit the zip and allow all the bunch to pass me. I was last in the first buoy. Later I found my pace an I could retake some positions.
90 km ride in 2:47. Pouring with rain and cold, still a good 32 km/h average speed. I could retake more positions lost in the swim, I was caching people all the time.
21 km run in 1:36 h, including a "T3" in the loo. (probably 2 min). Good run despite a strong back pain from the ride during the first 1/4 of the run.

Result; Great satisfaction for having completed this challenge. I was 148th out of 600 participants and 29th in my age group ; ) 5:10 h in total"

Monday 22nd June 2015

Apologies for the silence in recent weeks!  Sometimes personal events have to take priority!
Many of you know Keith Stokes  (designer of the club's logo, kit, flags etc).  Delighted to announce Keith was married on 6th June to the lovely Michelle. In attendance were their 2 beautiful daughters Ruby & Molly. We wish them every happiness in their life together and thank Keith for his continuing support of the club.

Glad to see members have been very active in the last month with, as always, some outstanding achievements.

Firstly, congratulations to Ali Marshman for completing the Coach in Running & Fitness Course and to Andy Croft who is now a UK Athletics assistant coach. Thank you guys for giving up your time to do this. Their achievements mean you the members are safe in the knowledge that you are being led by qualified coaches.

The club have expanded the run opportunities to include a Monday social run. All abilities welcome, meet at 7pm on the prom near Bexhill Sailing Club.
Also, members arrange ad hoc swims, bike rides etc. via the clubs group Facebook page.  BRT - Bexhill Runners & Triathletes
Another new feature is a club page on 'Strada', an application designed to log your weekly mileage and a fun way to see the champion of the week!

A postscript to the successful inaugural Starfish Marathon & Races, Emma Bourne (St Mary's School) presented Gill & Mike Stokes  with a lovely framed picture commemorating the day. She thanked them for the club's enormous support which helped to raise over £3000! Next year's date will be announced soon.

NDW50
Tim Cox was in action on 17th May in the NDW50. On the hottest day of the year so far Tim finished in a time of 9:54:50. Tim thoroughly enjoyed the course.

Run Across Scotland -
Congratulations to Sherrill Barrett who completed this 85 mile 5 day challenge in the week commencing 17th May. Sherrill was part of last years  'Adventure before Dementia' brt group (celebrating Janet's big birthday!) but unfortunately developed an injury half way through and was unable to finish. In true Sherrill style she was determined to have another go and was delighted to be successful this time.

 Ironman Lanzarote-
On 23rd May Simon Casebourne and Paul Holdaway challenged themselves over the  Ironman course in Lanzarote. After months of training there were mixed emotions on the day. Simon achieved a consistently strong 3 elements with a 1:12:40 swim 6:28:13 bike and 3:58:36 run with an excellent overall time of 11:50:06.
Paul started strongly with a 1:00:08 swim 6:15:03 bike but then the legs just weren't there on the day and he ended up with a long walk to the finish line. As everyone who competes will know sometimes its just not meant to be and Paul is to be applauded for finishing in the knowledge that to complete an Ironman no matter how long it takes is an enormous achievement. We wish him better luck next time.

Bexhill 5km
The first of this years Bexhill Prom 5km series took place on the evening of Wednesday 27th May.  A strong turnout for the club from juniors and adults saw some great results. Special mention to junior Mark Griffin who ran his first ever 5km in a very good time of 23:04! Results were:

Ali -Swim 28:47 Bike 1:18:59 Run 53:39 Total 2:47:50

Eastbourne Sportive
Last, but certainly not least, result for the 14th June; Lorna Cotter and Marcos Miranda rode the Eastbourne 46 mile Sportive. Although Marcos found the organisation a little confusing to say the least and ended up riding a few extra miles, he was pleased with his average pace of 30.5kph! Lorna had recced the course and was more prepared for the lack of signage at the junctions and finished in a time of 3hrs 35mins. Well done for completing a challenging course.

Yesterday witnessed the Inaugural Bexhill Starfish Marathon & Races on Bexhill Promenade. The day started overcast and typically windy, however, by lunchtime the clouds had lifted and the sun made the going a little warm for the runners!  The course for the marathon consisted of 4 laps along our glorious seafront taking in a couple of sneaky hills at the East end! Brt had 2 members running in the full marathon, Tim Cox 3:37;03 and David Palmer 4:10:26. (Well 3 if you include 'Patrick' the Starfish who was carried round on Tim's back with a very surprised expression on his face!)  Ali Marshman's brother Dan  (Clapham Chasers) chose our marathon as his 1st ever! Well done Dan.

Brt made up 2 teams in the Relay Marathon event. First home in 2nd place were Team 'Swift' (Ali Marshman, Ben Evett, Martin Reynolds & Alex Mandryko) in a time of 3:04:03
Next up in 4th place were Team 'Running in 4hrs' ( James Graham, Cathy Bate, Lorna Cotter & Pam Matthews) in a time of 4:08:40.

Bexhill Runners & Triathletes were proud to host the first Marathon in Bexhill on behalf of St. Mary's School.  It is hoped it will become an annual event the club can be proud of.  A huge thank you to the organisers, marshals, Faye McClelland for presenting the prizes, Simon Casebourne (lead bike), Pip Parry (photos) the runners and supporters for all of your efforts. It's been a busy couple of weeks for the club with members taking part in a variety of events.  The members involved in organising the Starfish Marathon & Races have also been flat out getting preparations finalised.  Marshals are still required for all or part of the day.  Please notify gill@bexhillrunnerstriathletes.co.uk if you have any time on 10th May.

Now to catch up on news:

On 18th April Andy Croft completed his first ever race including obstacles! Andy took on the Dirty Dozen 12km race which included 20 obstacles to contend with. These types of events are great fun and help to improve strength and provide many bruises in which to impress your family and friends! Andy finished in 2:26:52. Pictures here.

Also on the 18th the inaugural Hastings Parkrun took place. Parkruns have proved to be exceptionally popular and a great place to test your 5km time. 3 brt members tested the course.  James Graham, our barefoot runner, recorded a time of 25:07. Cathy Bate cycled to the event & back and ran 27:21.  Lorna Cotter ran 29:56.

Tim Cox proved that sometimes running should just be about having fun!  He went to slay dragons at the St Georges Day Marathon on 23rd dressed as the man himself. Sir Cox completed the race in a time of 3:37:53 placing him 6th.  Very well done.

Monday 13th April 2015

Monday 2nd March 2015

It was a busy weekend with lots of local races taking place.
1st up was Saturday's Eastbourne Parkrun.  Emma Faulkner finished 1st in her Age Group in a time of 20:11. Andy Bishop recorded a new personal pb for the course, a time of 22:46.
Andy Bishop was in action again yesterday (Sunday) running the Eastbourne Half Marathon in a time of 1:54:06.  Barry Ingram chose this event as the first in a list of 7 he is running this year to mark 5 years since he started running but also 5 years since he lost his grandad.  Barry's next race is the Hastings Half Marathon followed by Bewl 15, the Canturbury Half Marathon, the Great North Run, the Dublin Marathon, and finishing with the Poppy Half Marathon.  Please support him....
Barry-Ingram2

Jon Fielden ran the Steyning Stinger Marathon (also yesterday) This was his report:
"The Steyning Stinger marathon was without doubt the muddiest race I have ever done. It was like running through a bog at times and I managed to wipe out in spectacular fashion at one point. I was chugging along then suddenly I was looking up at the sky and my arse was in a huge pit of mud! There was nothing else for it but to start laughing, get up and press on!
It was a superbly organised event and a perfect training run for the SDW50 and 100. 1000m of elevation over the course and some intriguing descents, some of which I went down like bambi on crack.
I finished a couple of minutes under 4hr 30 which I was really happy with. A fabulous day out!"

PictureTim with his 'goody bag!'
Meanwhile Tim Cox had a day off work last Thursday and decided to go and run a marathon by way of a change! Tim travelled to Kent for the Marathon Day marathon  (26.2 miles on 26/2 ) Tim recorded a time of 3:32:42.
Feeling good and recovered from his recent 100 miler Tim then raced The Grizzly yesterday! Billed as 'Twentyish muddy, hilly, boggy, beachy miles of the multiest-terrain running experience you will find this side of the end of time' & Dash to Delirium!  Tim finished in a time of 3:30

Last but certainly not least 4 members recorded some outstanding results in the Velocity Maidstone Duathlon yesterday.
Paul Holdaway and Simon Casebourne came 6th and 7th respectively.  Simon recorded an AG win with Paul 2nd in his AG.  Greg Cahill (3rd AG) and David Palmer also had good races. Splits for the  9.5k Run-42k Bike- 3.5k Run were:

Friday 27th February 2015

This from Dave  Oxbrow:

"I want to say a BIG thanks to everyone who came long to the "Alex" run on Wednesday 25th.
A calm, mild evening provided good conditions to run for everyone.
As I said it wasn't a race, no prizes or medals just a social run & to remember Alex.
Thanks also to Lorraine, Denise, Teresa, and Greg, for coming out to support the evening. Also Julie and Emma and the youngsters who kept us entertained.
Seeing so many come along meant a great deal to me personally, most of you knew Alex and what he means to our club, but also good to see some
newer members/faces as well.
Hope everyone was pleased with their effort on the evening you all should be pleased and proud, as I was.

Alex Mandryko raced the Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon yesterday and bagged himself a new pb!
This is what he had to say:
"I ran the Tunbridge  Wells Half Marathon in 1.27.12 a new PB!!!! I put it down to all the great training sessions I've had with the club."
Alex is a regular at the club sessions and has also been building his strength by racing the East Sussex Sunday Cross Country League.
Well done Alex, well deserved.

Mike Stokes ran the 2nd of the Run Wednesdays Cross Country events in Eastbourne. In very slippery conditions his time was 41:53 for the 5 miles.
He managed to stay on his feet-many didn't!

Tuesday 17th February 2015

The sun shone for the 3 members who ran the Tenterden 5 mile race last Sunday 15th February. Times were:
Paul Holdaway 28:53  Jacqui Vaughan 47:07  Lorna Cotter  48:48

Please note Wednesday 25th February's session will consist of a 5km seafront run, where Dave Oxbow hopes to time everyone. No medals just a 5km on Alex's seafront.
He realises as time passes newer members/runners will not know about Alex Hall and why he was/is so special to the club.
Everyone is welcome to join in, members or not, usual time 7pm by the shelter near the sailing club.  Dave looks forward to seeing as many people as possible on the evening, plus join him in 'Kerry's' for a hot cuppa afterwards if you would like.

PictureTim at the finish with a well deserved bit of 'bling'
Friday 13th February 2015

Last Friday 6th Feb at 6pm Tim Cox embarked on probably his toughest challenge to date.  The Arc of Attrition
the South Wests toughest non stop footrace. 100miles with a 38 hour cut-off.
The Route is a complete “Arc” around the far SW of Cornwall taking in 100miles of dramatic coastal path.

Tim entered the race before he found out that his shoulder surgery date was to be the middle of January. He decided that all being well after the op he would get on the start line and see what happened!  Tim was delighted to find out at the end of a long 30 hours 35 minutes of racing that he had finished in 14th place! This is an outstanding achievement  and the club salutes you Tim!  Very well done.

One other result from last weekend was from our lovely Sherrill Barrett who ran the Brighton- Falmer 10 mile race. This challenging trail run starts on the outskirts Brighton on Falmer Village adjacent to the Village Green on the outskirts of Falmer. Sherrill recorded a splendid time of 1:40:37.

The last race in the series is on March 8th at Blackstock Farm, Hellingly. Details here http://www.eastsussexcrosscountry.co.uk/events
They would welcome some support if you are not running.

The club now has 2 lovely new banners to promote the club during sessions. Can be used indoors as well. A big thank you to Hastings Printing Company Ltd for their very generous donation towards the cost.
The club would also like to thank graphic designer Keith Stokes (keith.stokes@highkite.co.uk) for a superb job. Keith donates his time for free as long as mum Gill Stokes keeps cooking him roast dinners when he visits!

Tuesday 27th January 2015

Friday 19th December 2014

A great time was had by all at this years Christmas dinner. Our lovely juniors were each presented with a certificate of achievement. They then surprised & delighted Andy with a 'coach' top which he will wear with pride!

The 2 lucky recipients  of the London Marathon places were Jon Fielden & Simon Irwin.

Ali Marshman won the Alex Hall Memorial Cup as voted for by you. Ali is a very valuable member & coach, providing great quality sessions all year round. Well done Ali -looking very pleased!

For those who weren't there below is Dave's roundup of 2014:

"Thank you all for coming today, I will attempt a brief round up of BRT for 2014.
Good to see Eddie & Pam here following a difficult time with some time spent in hospital,
but pleased to see Eddie here and report he completed 2 of our 5Kms this year,
and to report he is definitely not retiring yet!
Also good to see so many younger runners here.
Claire cannot be here today following her (and Johns) efforts to add to the younger
members with the birth of Finley Henry back in September. Congratulations to them.
In March some 16 members completed the Hastings Half Marathon.
At the London Marathon we were represented by Mike Green, Gary Clarke, Barry Ingram
and Tom Brampton who was drawn out of the hat at last years Christmas lunch.
Our growing band of "mentally insane" sorry "Ultra" runners continues with
Susie, Tim, Dave, & Alan covering 50 miles in April and going on to complete
100 miles in June. Plus Jon Fielden who travelled to France for a short 3.8Km run
which included a vertical rise of 1000M all without a ski lift! Followed 2 days later
by the Mont Blanc Marathon. He went on to complete the "Winter 100 in October.
One comment I received relating to Jon but applicable to all our Ultras, was
"they deserve medals, or counselling"
Throughout the year our own Emma Faulkner competed in Time Trials and
Duathlons with seemingly a PB every time. This culminated in representing
GB at the ETU duathlon in Austria, this was followed by success at the Bexhill 10Km
and 1st lady at the Chilham Castle Duathlon.
Ali Marshman continues to train with the club and coaching all aspects of Triathlon,
swimming, cycling and running. This has been of great help to several members
improving their abilities at these events. Particularly notable is Lorna who has
progressed and achieved so much this year.
Natasha has completed her first beginner's run course with her glamorous
assistant "Jon" at the end of Novenber, which was met with enthusiasm
& commitment by the whole group, all women who continued to attend in
often changeable conditions. Hopefully some will soon feel confident enough
to join our club. Another course starts in the new year.
A special mention also to another of our 'youngsters'.
Despite suffering an injury when she was knocked over by an errant pavement
cyclist she is on her way back to fitness now.
She has therefore been unable to complete some of her "self inflicted" challenges
planned in her milestone year.
As you know I am too much of a gentleman to reveal her age.
I will just say it's somewhere between 69 & 71.
So happy birthday for last Wednesday to Janet.
Members have achieved so much this year, Ben completed his first marathon,
many members had excellent results at various triathlons.
Michaela ran a 5Km at Eastbourne helping her dad round to a very
respectful 28 mins, plus several youngsters ran the Eastbourne Park run
yesterday.
Please keep up to date via the club website newsletter which Gill Stokes
keeps updated for us. Many of you I know get their information from
various social media like "twitface"
The latest news on Dave Rogers from early last week is he has had his
operation, and despite some initial problems I understand he is progressing
day by day and should be home soon.
Finally thank you all for coming today and best wishes for Christmas and
the new year."
 Dave.

We have since heard that Dave Rogers is now at home and recovering well.  His daughter kindly relayed messages put on fb from club members and said the family are enduring his wit and humour tenfold as he doesn't have his running buddies to inflict it on! Hurry back Dave, we love your free flowing sarcasm!

Monday 15th December 2014
Several events to report on in the last 2weeks.

2 results from Saturday 6th.  Junior runner Jacob ran the Bexhill Santa 5km in 24 mins! (his 1st 5km)
Tim Cox endured 47 miles in one of the Endurancelife coastal trail series events. Based in Dorset with over 8500ft of ascent & descent, Tim finished in 9:47:31. Great time.

Last Saturday (13th) 7 junior runners traveled to Eastbourne Parkrun, results were ... 1st place to Harvey Faulkner 22:29, 2nd place Lucy 24 :22, 3rd place to Jacob 24 :38 4th place to Zac 25 :57 5th place to Ferdi 25 :59 6th place to Sam 26 :59 7th place to Michaela 29 :20. Fantastic results form all & a chance to meet up with Danny's Little Run Wednesday Eastbourne group. Thank you to Andy & volunteers who went to support them.

Yesterday was the 2nd race in the East Sussex Sunday Cross Country League, this time at New Place Farm, Framfield. No hanging about with the Christmas lunch to get back to. The course was nice & muddy, Tim opted for long run tights to keep his legs clean whilst David sported shorts so had to wash in the sea before lunch! Results were: Alex Mandryko 35:30 Tim Cox 37:31  Susie Casebourne 37:45 Simon Casebourne 37:45 (what a gentleman Simon!) David Palmer 39:21

Wednesday 12th November 2014

7 brt members competed in the Poppy Half marathon last Saturday. TLSports Events faced a huge challenge to get the course ready in time after a high tide combined with very high winds saw shingle thrown up onto the prom. In fact the high winds were with the runners for the entire race making running conditions very tough albeit some spectacular waves to watch on the way round. Special mention to Martyn Reynolds our newest member who completed his first half marathon in a great time. Results were:
Alex Mandryko 1:28:48  Martyn Reynolds 1:37:39  Simon Irwin 1:40:26  Julian Manlow 1:53:26  Barry Ingram 1:57:46 Andy Bishop 2:05:01 Donia Pankhurst 2:42:03

Last Saturday 4 members ran the tough Beachy Head marathon. The Eastbourne Beachy Head Marathon is one the biggest off-road marathons in the UK. Formerly known as the Seven Sisters Marathon, it is popular for its scenic and challenging route through the South Downs National Park countryside.
After a very wet Friday the sun came out and the runners had glorious weather. Well done to all runners especially Ben Evett who recorded a superb time in this his first marathon. Times below:

Ben Evett  4:11:00   David Palmer  4:31:26   Brian Spiers  5:31:37   Julie Robinson  5:36:10
Pictures in the Gallery courtesy of Pip Parry.

On Sunday Barry Ingram represented the club in the Great South Run. The fast and flat 10 mile route takes in the iconic sites of the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard including Portsmouth Cathedral, Spinnaker Tower and the HMS Victory. Barry recorded a time of 1:28:28 & as you can see he was very pleased!

Other news.  Entries coming in for the Starfish Endurance Race on November 23rd.  You can put your individual entry in & sort out your team on the morning if you wish. If you are not running and can help out by marshalling please email gill@bexhillrunnerstriathletes.co.uk.

Outstanding achievement for 2 of our members last weekend.  Jon Fielden took on the momentous task of The Winter 100.
This is a 100 mile continuous trail race based in the twinned villages of Goring & Streatley on the River Thames.  The course reflects the shape of a cross and takes runners on a series of 4 different 25 mile out and back spurs using sections of both the Ridgeway and Thames Path national trails.

Jon started at 10:00 am on Saturday with the knowledge that the race has a 30 hour cut off time! Contestants run all day and on through the night only stopping for food and drink.  They are allowed a pacer from mile 50 and another one for the final 25 miles. Our own Susie Casebourne paced Jon from the 50 mile mark when his wife Natasha took over and had the difficult job of persuading Jon through to the finish. Glad to say they are still married!
Jon's amazing effort was rewarded with a time of 26:04:52 and a Centurion belt buckle.

Picture
On Sunday Emma Faulkner competed in the standard distance Chilham Castle Duathlon.  This consisted of a 10km run 40km bike 5km run.
The course created within the 300-acre grounds of Chilham Park is becoming renowned as one of the toughest in the UK, as competitors take on challenging terrain and plenty of mud for the run, and a testing bike section on the road taking in part of a local time trial route, which makes for fast times.

Emma gained 1st placed Lady in a time of 2:36:22. Her splits were:  49:55  1:19:12  24:49.  Emma has had an amazing year and the club are very proud of her outstanding achievements.

Forest of Dean Half Marathon

A group from brt and run wednesdays (Eastbourne) came together at the weekend to run the above event.  A long drive to get there followed by a few drinks in the evening was not the best race preparation for a tough trail half marathon with a few challenging hills!
A great time was had by all.  Results were: Colin Hanks  1:36:26  Sherrill Barrett  1:55:08 (3rd AG)  Julie Robinson  2:06:34 Dave Oxbrow  2:37:46  Claire Hanks  2:38:54  Chris Sage  3:09:59

More photos in the Gallery.

The Big10km

A beautiful warm and sunny day yesterday for this popular race along Bexhill seafront.  Emma Faulkner secured a convincing 1st place for the ladies in a time of 42:10. Dear
Runner,
I wanted to provide a reminder of the Heathfield Midsummer 10K race taking place on Sunday 22nd June, which also represents the midpoint of the Sussex Grand Prix calendar.
With an entry limit of just 300, we are one of the smaller races in the Grand prix calendar, so if you would like to join us we recommend you enter soon as it does tend to get filled up. The deadline for online entries is 17th June, and there may be some limited availability for entry on the day.
The race HQ is at the Rugby Club at Cross in Hand, Heathfield, TN21 0QZ and the race will start this year
at 10am. The route follows country lanes around the villages of Cross in Hand
and Waldron in Sussex.
New for this year we have access to more parking, which will be located just across the
road from the race HQ at the Isenhurst Country Club, TN21
0UE. There will also be parking available a few hundred metres down the road from
the Rugby Club (towards Heathfield) in another car park as well as at the side of the road. We encourage everyone to arrive in plenty of time.
For more information, including a route map, and to enter, visit http://heathfieldroadrunners.com/race.php.
All numbers for the race will be collected on the day.
There will be medals for all finishers and there will be plenty of home make cakes
and other refreshments available.
On behalf of Heathfield Road Runners we look forward to seeing you there and if
you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in
touch.
Kind regards,
Rosie
Manning
Race Director

Looking for a few members to run in the next Bexhill 5km on 25th June in response to the note below. This would be good publicity for the GBRelay & the club. Please let us know if you can help.
Hi. I am running the GB Relay http://gbrelay.com/home.php leg from Normans Bay to Bulverhyde on Thursday 26th June at 6.02 am to 7.08am. I will have a few runners with me from Tonbridge AC mainly youngsters who will run along the prom to Galley Hill.
We are planning to run the 5K race the night before, hopefully about 10 of us.
I am planning to raise a small amount of money towards one of the childrens charities that are local to Bexhill. If any of your members would be interested in joining us that would be fun to have as many as posiible. I will try to get the paper interested, do you have contacts there?
If you think this is of interest please let me know and I can supply more details particularly of the charity.

Regards

Mark Pitcairn-Knowles
