Weekend results 22nd - 23rd Sep 2012 & Other News
Tim Cox was in action on Saturday completing his 1st Sprint Distance Triathlon at the London Tri. His time was 1:23:06 placing him 21st in his age group. Well done Tim & a pb to beat in the future! The weather was perfect for racing unlike Sunday when Keith Stokes, at the same event, took on the Olympic Distance for the 1st time. Unfortunately the swim ditance was cut to 750m when the organisers deemed the water too dangerous. In fact they cancelled the swim element on the subsequent wave starts. Keith was then going very well on the bike when his back tyre blew out! Pleased to say the run went well & he was happy at then finish! Better luck next time!
Meanwhile Susie Casebourne travelled to the New Forest for the middle distance Tri, this is what she said:
"know i don't usually mention my events. Hardly ever, before i do them and
sometimes a little while after i've done them. This time i thought i would
as it had a different ending to my other events. My result is not on their
website as i never crossed any lines that beep at you. I went down to the
new forest this weekend for the middle distance tri. It got the better of me
and in my favourite bit too, i could not continue after the swim as it had
made me extremely cold and unable to think straight or even dress myself for
the bike ride. I should not have gone in the water as really i was not well
enough too but thought i was. I should have stayed on dry land and enjoyed a
lazy weekend instead. I will go back next year and try again as it was a
shame not to have had a cycle there "
Susie.
Well done Susie & a lesson for us all, sometimes our minds are strong but our bodies have other ideas! We look forward to recoding her success at the next attempt.
Also on Sunday, Grant Docksey & Lorna Cotter ran the Tonbridge half marathon. A hilly race this one, they recorded times of:
Grant 1:47:14 pb
Lorna 2:21:22
Well done to both.
Captain Slow (aka Antonio) sent us an article on 'the benefits of Beetroot' to be found on a Nutrition page under the Training tab.
The cross country time of year is nearly upon us. Please see the link on the home page to 'Sussex Races' then go to events. The cross country league is a series of 6 local races of 5 miles per race usually one per month throughout the winter. These events are open to all abilities & are a great way to add some strength to your running. There are also childrens events & I know Claire will be promoting these at the kids club sessions.
Finally, don't forget the Big 10km in Bexhill this Sunday, good luck to all members taking part especially to the new members entering a 10km for the first time.
