Junior sessions

Junior Sessions

We are a relaxed and fun group for children aged from 8 years upwards seeking to develop and progress their running. Our goal is to introduce your child to running in a fun way and help them to develop a love of running for life.

Run training can also be beneficial if your child is involved in other sports such a football or rugby. We help the children to improve their running whilst enjoying the sessions as they learn important technique, good form and pacing.

BRT Bexhill Runners & Triathletes Junior Runners

We meet twice a week:

  • Thursday from 6:00-7:00pm
the meeting location varies please see social media groups.

  • Saturday starting at 9.00-10.00am
the meeting location varies please see social media groups.

During our different types of training sessions, we make use of various local areas such as the sea front promenade, beach, Galley Hill and the grass and woods at Bexhill Downs. We don't currently train on an athletics track.

Our sessions comprise a warmup, main set with games and drills including relays, hill repeats, sprinting and endurance work, then a cool down with stretching.

During the winter months, children are invited to take part, along with the adult section of the club, in the East Sussex Sunday Cross Country League races. These are held once a month from October to March and are between 2km - 4km in distance. There are several age group races: U11, U13, U15 and U17 and medals are awarded to all finishers. Trail shoes with grippy soles are needed as it is usually muddy, but lots of fun and very friendly.

Throughout the rest of the year, we will share details of other local running and triathlon events, such as the Hastings Mini Run, which happens on half marathon day.

Payment is a nominal annual fee to the club. There is no payment each session.

It costs £34 a year to join the club, £10 membership and flat rate £24 training fee. The membership year runs from April.

Children are invited to attend the Club's annual dinner, where rewards are presented for effort and achievement throughout the year.

Parents do not have to wait whilst children are running, feel free to go for your own run. We will have your emergency contact details if needed.

What to bring:
  • Suitable footwear is a must - supportive trainers designed for sport rather than fashion.
  • A water bottle to ensure good hydration
  • A head torch for safety during runs in the dark
  • Children can buy club kit such as vests, t-shirts and hoodies, but this is not compulsory.

Behavioural expectations:
Children's welfare is a top priority. We want them to enjoy the sessions and have fun. The coaching team is encouraging and supportive.

We welcome children with additional needs and disabilities. For safety, all participants need to be able to listen and follow instructions. We expect all runners to be respectful and encouraging to one another. We encourage kindness and team-work.
